A Raft of Pelicans

Pelicans in Santa Barbara have a visible sac underneath their beak, I'm told. Not here. These pelicans migrated to northern California near Klamath Falls, Oregon -- actually some of them live in the little rivers and lake right in town!

October already?

I'm surprised that I even added to this blog in September. It's so nice to be here; but I don't have that much to say, this year. One of you guys should start posting here, I think! You have so much more news this year than I do. And you might be thinking more than I have been. I've been getting the [lovely] local paper daily, and got involved in doing those seven-letter scrambles. So often I have severe doubts as to whether one of the words I choose to use really is a word. I did discover last week to my mortification that if I try to check up online, I find a sight which immediately shows the anagram of my suggested word -- I forget what I had designed, and doubted, but the screen promptly showed "obesity" as the only anagram of the letters I'd used. So today, I'm here online because I'm wondering if "cryptal" is really a word. It's not in the dictionary I have here, but if I keep doing these next year I'll probably have to get a fuller dictionary. And of course, I hate to look it up, for fear I'll see a real answer if this isn't it.

What have I been doing? Well, I'm attempting to add a picture here, from Klamath Falls. Brought lots of warm clothes with me, to go there; didn't know what the weather would be. Generally, almost ninety out, with me standing in the shade of the car to be cooler in the middle of the afternoon. Amazing, how pelicans make huge rafts, forty or more in a huge clump, proceeding thru water with their bills down, foraging.

And totally amazing, how many egrets there were. And falcons. Just heavenly.
